Introducing Tristan!

He is two months old! I can't imagine our life without him now. He has been smiling at us the past couple of weeks and it is the best thing in the world! For the first month he did a lot sleeping, I had to wake him up to feed him most of the time. He only woke up about once in the night sometime in between 3 -5 am to eat. At about 5 weeks my perfect baby that I bragged about to everyone turned into a real baby. He definitly wakes up on his own to eat now and stays awake and it actually takes some effort to get him to sleep sometimes. Theres been a couple of days when at 4pm in the afternoon when I haven't showered, I'm still in my bathrobe, I have spit up in my hair, smell faintly of baby pee, I'm sleepy and I havent eaten a morsel all day, I think to myself this is what I wanted, and it is, I love this guy so incredibly much and motherhood, not that I feel like a real "mom" yet.

Just a few of the things I love about this guy...

everytime he wakes up and after every feeding he does a full on stretch with his arms way above his head... so adult like and so adorable.

during tummy time I'll face his head away from me and get on his other side and talk to him until with all his little effort he'll finally get his head turned towards me and now he can even keep his head up for a little while

I love weekend naps with this guy and especially family nap time is the best

we swaddle him every night even though he protests, he's a regular little houdini and most of the time manages to wriggle his little arms out of it

he loves being held upright looking over my shoulder so he can look out at the world, which mainly consists of our house until this week we are braving taking this little guy all the way out to Houston for his uncle orson's law school graduation.

so far he tolerates bath time ok, he has sort of a concerned look on his face throughout the bath, but he's like his mom, he doesn't like to be cold, so as soon as he's taken out of the warm water he protests until he's safely enconsed in his warm bath towel. This is one of his first baths.

did I mention his smile.... I even love his cries, although most of the time its just complaining unless he's just woken up from a nap and realized he is starving and then its a full on feed me now demand!!

Tristans New Born Photos

Sorry for the double dose of pictures if you saw them on face book too. I think they turned out so good. If I hadnt made the appointment before I had him we probably wouldn't have gotten around to doing it so I am so glad we did. Thanks to my mom for coming and getting peed on right before we were about to take the pics. I have found that the cheapo walmart new born diapers work way betther than huggies or pampers for this little guy. I cant believe he is going to be one month old soon. We love having little Tristan finally here.

Labor Story

On Friday, March 2, 2012, we got the call to come to the hospital to be induced. Surreal, driving to the hospital knowing life would never be the same. We got to the hospital around 9:45 am, got checked into our room and began the waiting game. After checking me out currently being dilated at a 1 they gave me something to soften me up, this part took about 6 hours. Luckily around 3 pm they let me eat something knowing that this was going to be a long process. At 4pm they started me on Pitossin. For the next 4 or 5 hours I felt cramps but not I can't handle this sort of cramps. Around 8 the dr came and checked on me again and said I was not progressing and he was going to come back in a couple of hours and break my water and manually stretch me out a little bit and recommended that I get the epidurals because at this point the checking me out part was more painful to me than the cramps. This is the point in the day where I started to panic, realizing that this was the point of no return I was definitly having this baby and there was no way out that didn't seem like it wasn't going to hurt. I got the epidural, the dr broke my water and the rest of the night was a blur of nurses coming and going in. Around 5 am I woke up and my epidural had worn off because I was feeling these contractions. The anetheisologist had scared me from pressing the epidural button saying that if I needed a C-sec I might have to be put under if I had been pressing my epidural button all night, so the next few hours were hard. Finally they took me off pitossin to see if my body would do something on its own. It did the hard contractions on its own but the baby's head was tilted a little bit on my hip and was not dropping down enough to cause me to dilate. The dr came in around 8:30 and recommended doing the C-sec, saying basically that this wasn't going to happen naturally. Once we agreed there was a flurry of activity and I started getting pumped full of drugs. As we went into the opering room I was shaking uncontrollably I was so nervous. I kept asking the anethisologist if I was numb enough and he said I was b/c they had already started cutting me open. I felt a lot of tugging and pulling which they kept telling me was normal and I heard Tristan crying, I teared up and then I was out of it. I guess Ryan brought him to me and I kissed him but I cant remember this at all. Ryan went down with him to the nursery while I was out of it and while Tristan was being poked and prodded doing the newborn testing and crying and crying when Ryan talked to him Tristan immediatly got quiet and looked right at him which is so cool. All the talking Ryan did while he was in utero definitly made him recognize his voice. Meanwhile when I woke up the dr and nurses told me I had lost a lot of blood and might possibly need a blood transfusion and were worried how swollen I was and might have some internal bleeding. Luckily, I didn't end up needing the transfusion, I will be just extra tired until I get all my blood back. Although this wasn't how I imagined it all taking place, all I can be is so grateful that he is such an adorable healthy little guy that we are absolutely in love with! Here's some pictures, Ryan actually took some of my insides but I'm sure not many people want to see that.

Baby Update

Friday, March 2nd is the big day! I am 5th on the list of being induced. I am sooo excited to not be pregnant anymore and so excited to meet Tristan! ( I am sure the nervousness will hit tonight though) Ryan made this cool video of the pregnancy photos we've taken.

Also, Ryan worked really hard on this wainscotting for the nursery! We've almost finished decorating but its not perfect yet, as soon as it is I will post the finished pics.

The Third Trimester & Baby Coming Soon!

At my dr appt last week I had developed pre-clampsia. Luckily I was almost to 37 weeks (considered full term). I've taken two 24 hr urine tests (annoying) and went to the hospital saturday and sunday for them to monitor baby and check my blood pressure. My blood pressure was better but I still had really high number for protein in my urine. Anyways, they put me on bed rest (also annoying b/c of all the things I feel like we still need to do to prepare) until my dr appt tomorrow morning at which time we will schedule to be induced or do a C-section before the end of the week. Crazy!! I wrote a blog a while ago when I first begun the third trimester but never posted it b/c I kept waiting to post a cute preggie pic of me but never got one. As this could quite possibly be my last day pregnant for a while if not forever (hopefully not) i thought I would write down my pregnancy thoughts.

I admit I came into this pregnancy thing a little naive and had a few assumptions of what it was going to be like in the beginning.

1) I thought I would be one of the girls who didn't even look like they were pregnant until 5 months along: False- I started looking pregnant by like 10 weeks. A stranger at the airport made a comment about my being pregnant when I was only 12 weeks, I thought I had been hiding it pretty well but at that point I decided to no longer try.

2) I would still be able to wear heels. False- The few times I have worn heels I have regretted it and do so now only under extreme circumstances like to church. I realize I was under the impression this was possible because the motherhood maternity clothing magazines models are wearing heels in every single pic and should be sued for false advertising,! Now my feet are so swollen constantly that the only shoes I can wear are some moccassins that I bought a full size bigger than my regular size at the beginning of my pregnancy in anticipation of these last few months and by far the smartest pregnancy purchase I made.

3) Only my belly would get big- False-Every single part of my body has changed and I had to get used to the idea that I was no longer really in control of my body anymore. Something else was in charge- the baby. It took me a little while but once I got used to the idea that my body wasn't going to by my body for a while it got lot easier to adjust to the ride.

4) Morning sickness would be kind of fun and would be only in the morning- FALSE- The first week after I found out I was pregnant I wasn't sick,so of course I worried that something was wrong b/c I wasnt. My husband said I should be grateful for this blessing but still I felt like I wouldn't be experiencing pregnancy to its fullest without the traditional morning sickness routine. At first I was a little queasy for about a week, still not satisfied. Then it hit, after about one throw up it wasn't so cute anymore and as full fledged sickness and daily vomiting set in I began to wonder why anyone ever got pregnant more than once. Afternoons were a little bit more manageable but it seemed like I woke up and went to bed sick every day long after the long awaited for first trimester was over and then started back up again during the third trimester although not nearly as bad as in the beginning.

5) I would be scared to death of the labor and delivery. False- Im really not scared, but it is the unknown so a little daunting wondering what to expect. Now that it may not even be an option I am actually a little sad of missing out on the experience.

6) I would love every single minute of being pregnant- Clarification- I love and am extremely grateful that I am pregnant and for this baby that I already love but the physical part of being pregnant is a lot, lot harder than I imagined it would be, I feel like I have experienced every symptom in the book and they are not pretty or fun. I think that 80% hmm maybe 95% of pregnancy is uncomfortable, but that the other 5-20% where you get to hear the heartbeat, see ultra sounds, feel the baby move (which is awesome) talk about the baby, shop for the baby, have strangers ask you questions and congratulate you about the baby are so fun and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Christmas & New Year's

I will just start out by saying I have stolen most of these pics of other people's blogs and facebook so hopefully they don't mind.

December flew by. We went to see the Utah Symphony Christmas concert at Thanksgiving Point.
Went to a couple of friend's Christmas Parties. Saw Hugo in 3D for Ryan's work Christmas party. Celebrated Christmas with Ryan's family before flying to Seattle for Christmas with my family.
We underestimated how busy the airport would be this time of the year and barely made our flight. We call it our Christmas miracle. We had been told that if we didn't make this flight at 7 am the next one was at noon, and there were only 2 seats available, and since my sister was with us we envisioned a nightmare day at the airport getting split up and missing all our plans we had for that day in Seattle. We were going thru the longest security line I have ever seen, heard the final boarding call for our flight while in line, ran, (well I as Ryan says did a panic waddle in my pregnant state running was not an option,in my socks holding my boots) actually barely made it on the plane 5 min after it was suppossed to take off. Even our luggage made it there when we had been told it might not b/c of the late checkin. Christmas in Seattle consisted of going on a chocalate factory tour, playing mafia, eating out and generally enjoying being almost all together. Also, my family had a really fun shower for me and Ryan where we got to hang out with all our awesome cousins and get some really cute baby stuff including a crib!!

Thanksgiving!

is one of my favorite holidays. Its all about one big wonderful meal and being thankful for what you have. This year my little sis. Penny stayed with us for the weekend from the far land of Provo. She was an Angel and upon arrival and my joking that I would pay her to clean my oven that I had dropped a pizza in a few days earlier she got right to work and cleaned and scrubbed it till it looked brand new while me and Ryan finished and cleaned up our painting job from the day before. I still love opening the oven and having it sparkling clean. The morning of, Ryan made us delicous beinget dounguts we got from our trip to New Orleans so that our stomachs would be stretched for the main event. We met Ryan's family at his aunt's house and had a wonderful meal, and Ryan and Penny participated in the Walleyball game. Afterward we relaxed at Ryan's mom's house and watched a movie.

Black Friday we didn't have any incliniation to wake up at 5 am again, but we did brave the shopping around noon and got a few good things.

Saturday, sister Annaliese and family were in town and we had a fun day, eating at Costa Vida, going to the Bean Museum, Byu bookstore, Penny's apartment and Baby's R' Us.
